Efficient promotion of methane hydrate formation and elimination of foam generation using fluorinated

Abstract: Methane hydrate preparation is an effective method to store and transport methane. In promoters to facilitate methane hydrate formation, homogeneous surfactant solutions, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in particular, are more favorable than heterogeneous particles, thanks to their faster reaction rate, more storage capacity, and higher stability. Foaming, however, could not be avoided during hydrate dissociation with the presence of SDS. This paper investigated the ability of five fluorinated surfactants: potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate (PBS), potassium perfluorohexyl sulfonate (PHS), potassium perfluorooctane sulfonate (POS), ammonium perfluorooctane sulfonate (AOS), and tetraethylammonium perfluorooctyl sulfonate (TOS) to promote methane hydrate formation. It was found that both PBS and PHS achieve a storage capacity of 150 ( , the volume of methane that can be stored by one volume of water) within 30 min, more than that of SDS. Cationic ions and the carbon chain length were then discussed on their effects during the formation. It was concluded that PBS, PHS, and POS produced no foam during hydrate dissociation, making them promising promoters in large-scale application.

Superior performance in visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution reaction of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous SrTiO decorated with ZnCdS

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 6,   Pages 1561-1571 doi: 10.1007/s11705-021-2089-z

Abstract: It is of broad interest to develop emerging photocatalysts with excellent light-harvesting capacity and high charge carrier separation efficiency for visible light photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction. However, achieving satisfying hydrogen evolution efficiency under noble metal-free conditions remains challenging. In this study, we demonstrate the fabrication of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous SrTiO3 decorated with ZnxCd1−xS nanoparticles for hydrogen production under visible light irradiation (λ>420 nm). Synergetic enhancement of photocatalytic activity is achieved by the slow photon effect and improved separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers. The obtained composites could afford very high hydrogen production efficiencies up to 19.67 mmol·g−1·h−1, with an apparent quantum efficiency of 35.9% at 420 nm, which is 4.2 and 23.9 times higher than those of pure Zn0.5Cd0.5S (4.67 mmol·g−1·h−1) and CdS (0.82 mmol·g−1·h−1), respectively. In particular, under Pt-free conditions, an attractive hydrogen production rate (3.23 mmol·g−1·h−1) was achieved, providing a low-cost and high-efficiency strategy to produce hydrogen from water splitting. Moreover, the composites showed excellent stability, and no obvious loss in activity was observed after five cycling tests.

Health: a dream from reality to the future

Chunsong Hu,Qinghua Wu

Frontiers of Medicine 2016, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 233-235 doi: 10.1007/s11684-016-0444-0

Abstract:

This paper argues that health is a realistic productive force that may enhance the index of happiness. As the basis of all developments and the source of a person’s and his/her family’s happiness, health requires not only primary and secondary prevention, but also policy prevention, that is to say, grade-zero prevention. Therefore, people should pay more attention to Health in All Policies. As a new preventive strategy, the policy prevention will help improve people’s health significantly and promote the concepts of “Healthy China” and “the Chinese Dream” or “the World Dream” to realize a dream from reality to the future.

Promotion of transition metal oxides on the NH

Weiman Li, Haidi Liu, Yunfa Chen

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2017, Volume 11, Issue 2, doi: 10.1007/s11783-017-0914-x

Abstract: Manganese and chromium oxides promote the NH -SCR activity of Zr-Ce mixed oxide. Cr-Zr-Ce mixed oxide exhibited>80% NO conversion at a wide temperature window. More acid sites and higher reducibility may responsible for the high SCR ability. Chromium oxide and manganese oxide promoted ZrO -CeO catalysts were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation method for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH . A series of characterization including X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HR-TEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis, H temperature-programmed reduction (H -TPR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to evaluate the influence of the physicochemical properties on NH -SCR activity. Cr-Zr-Ce and Mn-Zr-Ce catalysts are much more active than ZrO -CeO binary oxide for the low temperature NH -SCR, mainly because of the high specific surface area, more surface oxygen species, improved reducibility derived from synergistic effect among different elements. Mn-Zr-Ce catalyst exhibited high tolerance to SO and H O. Cr-Zr-Ce mixed oxide exhibited>80% NO conversion at a wide temperature window of 100°C–300°C. DRIFT studies showed that the addition of Cr is beneficial to the formation of Bronsted acid sites and prevents the formation of stable nitrate species because of the presence of Cr . The present mixed oxide can be a candidate for the low temperature abatement of NO .

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2010, Volume 5, Issue 4,   Pages 399-411 doi: 10.1007/s11465-010-0116-8

Abstract: Conceptual design is the most critical and creative phase of design. Recently, increasing attention has been directed to supporting conceptual-level computer aided creative design and its theories and methodologies. Specifically, for conceptual design of mechanical products, this paper presents a novel function solving model for mechanical product design and highlights the importance of systematic synthesis to achieve creative design. Then it builds a framework as a function-effect-process-action- mechanisms (FEPAM) mapping process, which enables creative design on the basis of conceiving different action schemes. After that, several key points are elaborated including 1) representing and decomposition methods of functions and motion behaviors; 2) action scheme representing method based on network plan techniques; and 3) variation and creation methods based on action scheme transformations.

Optimal design of a linkage–cam mechanism-based redundantly actuated parallel manipulator

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2021, Volume 16, Issue 3,   Pages 451-467 doi: 10.1007/s11465-021-0634-6

Abstract: A redundantly actuated parallel manipulator (RAPM) with mixed translational and rotational degrees of freedom (DOFs) is challenged for its dimensionally homogeneous Jacobian modeling and optimal design of architecture. In this paper, a means to achieve redundant actuation by adding kinematic constraints is introduced, which reduces the DOFs of the end-effector (EE). A generic dimensionally homogeneous Jacobian is developed for this type of RAPMs, which maps the generalized velocities of three points on the EE to the joint velocities. A new optimization algorithm derived from this dimensionally homogeneous Jacobian is proposed for the optimal design of this type of RAPMs. As an example, this paper presents a spatial RAPM involving linkages and cam mechanisms. This RAPM has 4 DOFs and 6 translational actuations. The linkage lengths and the position of the universal joints of the RAPM are optimized based on the dimensionally homogeneous Jacobian.
